The Gasworks Dungannon

A popular Dungannon bar has strongly denied allegations circulating online of a sectarian incident at its premises, confirming that the matter has now been referred to police.

The Gas Works issued a public statement after becoming aware of a social media post alleging that a customer had been subjected to sectarian abuse by staff and other patrons during a party at the venue last Friday.

In response, The Gas Works said it was “upset and disgusted” by the allegations and issued an unequivocal denial.

“Let us be clear: we do not tolerate hatred, discrimination, or aggression of any kind in The Gas Works—towards staff or customers. Full stop,” the statement said.

The venue confirmed that it would not discuss the specific details of the alleged incident publicly as the matter is now with the police and all CCTV footage has been handed over.

“What we will say is this: everyone is welcome at The Gas Works. Always has been,” the statement added.

The owners described the business as a space built on “warmth, respect, and community spirit”, stressing that their team comes from all parts of the community and works hard every day to ensure customers feel at home.

They also highlighted the work of Denver – Managing Director at The Gas Works – who is involved with local boxing clubs and community initiatives, saying: “Anyone who knows Denver [Dee], knows the work he does… in bringing people together.”

The Gas Works team said they would not “stand by and let lies be spread” about their business or staff, describing the allegations as “slander”.

The statement concluded with a call for support from the local community: “If you’ve ever felt that welcome, if you know who we are and what we’re about — we’d be grateful if you stood with us now and showed your support. Because this isn’t just about us. It’s about protecting the kind of space our town deserves.”
