Public urged to avoid speculation following death of man in Aughnacloy

The public are being urged to “avoid speculation” while police investigate the circumstances surrounding a man’s death in Aughnacloy.

Locals reported that police had attended the scene of the man’s death in the Mill Road and had erected a tent on site in a field on Wednesday evening.

The area has been cordoned off and police remained at the scene this morning (Thursday).

Deputy Leader of the UUP and South Tyrone MLA, Diana Armstrong issued a response to the investigation expressing her shock and sadness.

She said: “This is deeply distressing news for the local community and the surrounding area. My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased at this difficult time.”

Urging the public to cooperate with the investigation, Ms Armstrong said: “I would appeal to the public to avoid speculation whilst the investigation is ongoing and show compassion as the PSNI work to establish the full circumstances.”
