Three friends hope to make ‘dream a reality’ for mum-of-two with just six months to live

'She is facing this with courage, grace and love but we don’t want her to face it alone'

A fundraiser to give a young mum with only six months to live the chance to create lasting memories with her two “beautiful” girls surpassed £13,000 in less than 24 hours.

The effort has been launched by the three best friends of Dungannon woman, Claire who was recently diagnosed with terminal lung cancer.

Even in their own heartache, the three friends – Marilee, Claire and Tracey – started a GoFundMe page to help collate funds to make the next few months as comfortable and enjoyable as possible for Claire and her family.

Detailing Claire’s devastating situation, Marilee explained on the GoFundMe description: “Despite treatment, and all the strength she is currently showing, doctors have advised she has six months to live.

“She is facing this with courage, grace and love but we don’t want her to face it alone.

“Alongside her family we want to help support her and help her make the most of the precious time she has left.”

As a “devoted” mother of two young girls, Claire wishes to make the most of her time by making memories with her daughters.

Said Marilee: “Her wish is to create lasting memories with them that they will cherish in the years to come.

“She would like to take them to Disneyland Paris and, as time is of the essence, we would like to help her make this dream a reality as quickly as possible in order for her to be able to feel well enough to enjoy this with her wee family.”

The fundraiser was set with a target of £16,000. In less than 24 hours it had already exceeded £13,000 in donations.

The appeal has been shared far and wide, with many also taking the time to offer their prayers and well wishes to the family.

All donations – no matter how big or small – are being received with the utmost gratitude by friends Marilee, Claire and Tracey; Claire and her daughters.
