Tributes paid to well-known Moy funeral director Benny Martin

Benny Martin

The Moy and wider community are mourning the passing of well-known funeral director Benny Martin, who died peacefully at Craigavon Area Hospital on Thursday, October 24, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr Martin – of Charlemont Road – was the face of one of the best-known funeral homes in the region — Benedict J. Martin & Son — a business with deep roots in the local community dating back to 1950.

He was the beloved husband of Maura, father of Benedict and Maria, father-in-law of Stephen and devoted grandfather of Dara and Jude. He was the much-loved son of the late Benny and Anna Martin, and brother of Mary (Ashford), Francis, Sean and the late Eugene.

Founded by his late father, Benedict J. Martin, the funeral home has been in the heart of the community for generations, helping local families through their most difficult times.

From its base on the Charlemont Road, the family-run business became known for its professionalism and personal touch — qualities many have attributed to Benny himself.

Those who worked with or were served by the Martins often spoke of their kindness, calm presence and genuine understanding during moments of loss.

Tributes have poured in since news of his passing.

One person posted: “Heartbroken to hear the sad news of a great gentleman who will be sadly missed. R.I.P. Benny — you were one in a million. Condolences to the family at this sad time.”

Others described him simply as “a great character” and “an absolute gentleman”.

Mr Martin will repose at the funeral home of Benedict J. Martin & Son, 11 Charlemont Road, Moy, from 11am to 9pm on Sunday.

Funeral will take place on Monday with removal at 12.30pm for Requiem Mass at 1pm in St Peter’s Church, Collegeland, followed by interment in St John’s Cemetery, Benburb Road, Moy.
