An elderly couple have been left shaken after a burglary at their home in the Newtown Road area of Newry last night, Saturday, June 7.
They were in bed at around midnight when they were disturbed by a noise in the house. Their bedroom door was then forced open and two men entered the bedroom.
One of the men was carrying an iron bar and the other was carrying a torch. The men demanded money from the couple before making off with a handbag containing a sum of cash.
One of the men is described as being approximately 25-30 year old, around 5′ 8″ tall, of slim build with fair hair cut short but not shaven. He spoke with a local Newry accent. The second man was slightly smaller and of heavier build, with fair hair and a fair complexion.
The couple were not injured but left shaken by their ordeal.
Detectives would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information to contact CID at Ardmore Police Station on the non-emergency number 101.
