Police say they are receiving increased reports of door to door salespersons operating in the area tonight and they have warned the public to be on their guards.
Police say reports suggest suspicious activity in Armagh City and Markethill, with salespersons selling knives and chess boards.
Earlier there are an incident where a male called at an elderly resident’s address on Lonsdale Road, Armagh claiming they were from the Electricity Board and that they were carrying out a survey where to place a new pole.
The bogus caller then invited the resident outside whilst others entered the property and removed items.
It is believed this male was wearing an identification card.
Police advise people to use the free Quick Check Service, saying genuine callers will not mind having to wait while you check them out.
There are also ‘No Cold Callers’ door signs available by contacting the PSNI at the Armagh Station between 8am and 8pm.
Police say: “This will at least show any potential scammers you are well advised. Remember most importantly these people do not want to be caught. We always follow up reports of suspicious activity and cold callers.
“Please keep these calls coming. We appreciate you taking the time and effort to contact us. Together we can make our communities safer.”
