Firm demand remains at Markethill Cattle Sale

AN entry of 530 cattle at Markethill continued to sell in a firm demand throughout the rings yesterday (Tuesday), May 21.

Highlight of the sale was in the dairy ring where a Craigavon farmer received £2020 for a calved heifer.  The same owner received £1600 for a calved heifer.  A Loughgall farmer sold a calved heifer at £1380.

In the suckler ring top price of £1250 for a blue cow and bull calf from a Killinchy farmer.  The same owner received £1060 for a blue cow and bull calf.  A Portadown farmer sold a Lim cow and bull calf at £1140.  Several more outfits from £850 to £1000.

CULL COWS

The 120 cull cows maintained their recent prices.  Non quality assured cows sold readily.  Cow/heifers to £200 for 490k at £980.  Several more from £150 to £175 per 100 kilos.  Cows from £130 to £151 for 650k at £980.  Young friesians from £128 to £142 per 100 kilos with cows from £110 to £127 for 620k at £790.  Second quality from £90 to £105 per 100 kilos and the poorest lots from £65 to £80 per 100 kilos.  Clean cattle sold from £175 to £205 for 660k at £1350.

Bullock trade was exceptionally firm.  Forward lots to £234 for 560k at £1310 followed by £225 for 550k at £1235.  Main demand from £185 to £217 for a 600k Angus at £1300.  Middleweights sold from £175 to £213 for 400k at £850.  Friesian bullocks in excellent demand with good quality lots from £140 to £166 for 490k at £815.
