Firmer demand for prime lambs

AN entry of 1170 sheep at Markethill sold in a firmer demand both for prime lambs and for stores this week.

Heavy lambs sold from £87 to £94 each and up to 371p per kilo for 25 kilos @ £92.80 each. All the heavy lambs in the sale averaged 25 kilos @ £89.80 each (317)

Suitable middleweight lambs sold to 402p per kilo for 23.5 kilos @ £94.50 each, followed by 400p per kilo for 22 kilos @ £88 each. Main demand sold from 375p to 396p per kilo.

Stores sold in an excellent trade with several new sellers in attendance. Top price of 400p per kilo was paid for 16 kilos @ £64 each. Main demand sold from 365p to 390p per kilo.

Good quality cull ewes sold from £60 to £82 each with 2nds from £35 to £50 each.

A larger entry of Breeding Ewes sold in a firmer trade. Hoggets sold to £155 each with other pens @ £152, £142 and £140 each. A Texel Ram sold @ £420.

An entry of Ped Suffolk Rams sold to 430gns for a Ram lamb, with others from 300gns to 400gns each.
