The eagerly awaited GCSE results at City of Armagh High School have exceeded expectations.
The results acknowledge the excellent, dedicated teaching the pupils have received over the past five years and reflect the effort and endeavour of the pupils.
Art, Geography, History and Music all achieved 100% pass closely followed by excellent results in Technology, French, Home Economics and Physical Education.
Principal David Cunningham said: “With every student given the opportunity to study all subjects it is very encouraging to see students excel in these subject areas.
“The healthy, vibrant partnership with the Southern Regional College enables pupils to achieve Occupational Studies qualifications in various vocational disciplines.
“This year the GCSE results were bolstered when 100% of all pupils who engaged in the opportunity passed their chosen courses (some with ‘BB’ grades).
“The core subjects of Mathematics and English are crucial to all schools success and I am pleased to report these departments continue to advance the percentage of pupils achieving A*-C grades.
“The support given to pupils as a consequence of small classes combined with the bespoke mentoring programme ensured most pupils teetering on the C\D boundary had a pleasant surprise when they opened their results.
“The top students this year were Matthew Sloane, Jonnie Monaghan, Ellen McCarragher, Mark Burns and Amy Stewart who all had a healthy sprinkling of A* and A grades in their 9 GCSE passes. George Hadnett, Victoria McLoughlin, Abbie Neville, James Black, Dean Chambers and Kyle Nugent all attained very good grades and are planning to continue their studies at The Royal, Armagh, the SRC or return to City of Armagh High School to pursue the Applied Health & Social Care course on offer.
“The City of Armagh High School is truly an all ability secondary school which caters for pupils from all backgrounds and ensures value is added to every pupil during their time at school. Although academic performance is important we strive to ensure pupils have an opportunity to experience the holistic nature of school life and leave better prepared for the future.
“It is great to see almost all pupils return this morning to collect their results and allow us to celebrate the achievements regardless of grades, it means a lot to the staff to hear they have got jobs or a course planned for the future.”
