After eight years of serving multi-award winning breakfast and lunch dishes to the patrons of The Bawn Pantry, owner James Scott has bid a fond farewell to his loyal staff and customers as he officially ‘hands over the reins’ to the new proprietors.
James announced his intentions to sell his Hamiltonsbawn-based bistro when the business went on the market back in May of this year.

Age played a factor in what James regarded as a “very difficult decision” which was not taken lightly.
Speaking at the time, he said: “It’s now time for someone else to take over the reins (I am getting too old) – my hope is that a new owner will step in and continue operating the Pantry with the same heart and passion myself and the girls have shown for the last eight years and at the same time retain the current staff.”
And, it would appear that his wish has been granted.
In a Facebook post yesterday (Monday, August 5) James announced the official handover, thanking his hardworking team – one of whom will be embarking on her own new chapter – and loyal customer base.
He said: “The time has finally come to pass the reins over to someone else.
“Before we introduce you to the new owners, can I just say that the last eight years have been so special – lifetime friendships and memories have been formed.
“I believe The Bawn Pantry was a place where everyone felt at home and we were all one big happy family.
“To all staff past and present and to all the customers Thank You.
“The current team at the pantry has been the envy of many other establishments and with Heather running the show along with Ruth, Rachel W, Louise, Rhonda, Erin, Rachel M and Sophie, I can honestly say it has been a pleasure.
“For now all current staff will remain with the exception of Rachel Whitten who will be heading on her Oz adventure in the coming weeks. I wish her well and safe travels.
“Alex and Ruth take over from tomorrow and I wish them all the best for the future and ask that everyone calls at the Pantry to say hello and allow us to introduce them. It’s business as usual and I look forward to working alongside both Alex and Ruth.”
Many took to social media to wish the popular businessman the best in his retirement and to welcome the new owners.
One person said: “End of an era for you James. You’ve always been the best host from that first morning of opening The Bawn Pantry.
“Best wishes to Alex, Ruth and team on their take over.”
Another said: “James thank you for the many laughs you gave myself and my daughters, for the warm welcomes and that feeling of always wanting to return and making our Thursdays to Hamiltonsbawn the highlight of our day!
“We wish you all the best in what’s ahead for yourself.
“The food has always been incredible but without doubt it’s the friendliness of yourselves what makes people return. Onwards and upwards. Good luck.”
The business will now be run under the dual management of Ruth Hill and Alex Forde and will continue to operate as normal.
