Hundreds of people have taken part in today’s ‘Run/Walk for Autism’ from Lissummon to Newtownhamilton.
Among those taking part was Newry and Armagh MLA Cathal Boylan, who completed the 10 mile walk and said that the event brought families and communities together to raise funds for Autism projects in the Newry and Mourne and Armagh localities.
“Run For Autism H.A.N.D.(Helping Autism in Newry and District), is a local charity, formed by a group of parents, family members and friends in 2008,” he said.
“The specific aim of the organisation is to give a helping HAND to autistic people and their families in this locality. Their focus is to raise funds for and awareness of autism.
“In October 2008 they organised their first Run/Walk and, encouraged by its huge success, they decided to make it an annual event.
“Many hundreds participated in the 10 mile run/walk or the Half Marathon today.
“It was an uplifting experience for everyone and I wish to congratulate all involved in the organising of the event.”
