A STRONG entry of cattle sold in an improved trade in all sections at the Fane Valley Mart in Newtownhamilton on Saturday.
The large number of heifers on offer sold to a top price of £1,375 for a 770 kg limousin. Other Limousins in this section sold at £1,185 for 580 kgs, £1,130 for 590 kgs, £1,090 for 540 kgs, £970 for 520 kgs and £855 for 380 kgs. Lightweight Limousin heifers sold for £640 for 290 kgs, £640 for 300 kgs and £635 for 300 kgs. Charolais heifers sold to £860 for 400 kgs, £815 for 390 kgs, £665 for 300 kgs and £650 for 290 kgs. Simmental heifers sold to £1,010 for 570 kgs while best of the Friesian heifers sold at £1,000 for 620 kgs and an Angus sold at £980 for 550 kgs.
Bullocks sold in a strong trade with Charolais selling for £1,100 for 550 kgs, £1,090 for 540 kgs, £1,080 for 510 kgs and £1,045 for 540 kgs. Limousin steers sold to £1,120 for 530 kgs, £1,110 for 520 kgs , £1,090 for 560 kgs, £1,085 for 560 kgs, £1,075 for 560 kgs and £1,005 for 540 kgs. Angus steers sold to £1,175 for 640 kgs and £890 for 440 kgs while Blondes sold to £970 for 490 kgs.
A strong entry of weanling calves sold to £860 paid for a Charolais at 400 kgs with £730 paid for a similar animal at 330 kgs. Other Charolais made £625 for 280 kgs and £615 for 290 kgs while Limousins sold to £865 for 400 kgs and £560 for 260 kgs (paid twice) and Blondes sold at £670 for 320 kgs and £640 for 310 kgs.
In the breeding stock section a number of young Limousin bulls sold to a top price of £1,450 for 730 kgs with £1,410 paid for 660 kgs, £1,300 for 610 kgs and £1,210 for 570 kgs.
