Inspiring next generation at Women’s Day event

FOUR high profile women – three of them local – will be  inspiring 150 of the future generation at an International Women’s Day Event in Armagh on Friday, March 8.

Working together, the cluster councils of Armagh City and District, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough have invited 16 to 18-year-olds  from schools across the three areas.

They will listen to Hannah Shields, acclaimed mountaineer and athlete; Lord Mayor of Armagh City and District, Councillor Sharon Haughey (pictured); Mayor of Craigavon, Councillor Carla Lockhart and Deputy Chairman of Banbridge, Councillor Elizabeth Ingram.

Each will give a synopsis of what inspires them, how they as women have worked to change their local communities, how they balance their lifestyle and yet still work towards maintaining women’s equality in all aspects of life.

“Our International Women’s Day is about encouraging our young people to aim high,” said Armagh Council chief executive John Briggs. “And we hope they will leave our event feeling inspired and believing that they have the ability to fulfil their dreams.”

The event is being held in Armagh City Hotel, from 9.30am until lunchtime. Invitations will be sent directly to local schools and colleges, but further information is available from Mary Hanna, Armagh City and District Council, on 3752 9600 or email mary.hanna@armagh.gov.uk.
