A nine-year-old boy from County Tyrone has died after a hit and run in Dundoran.
The incident happened after 9pn onlast night (Saturday).
The child was hit by a vehicle which then left the scene.
Despite the efforts of emergency services, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gardai in Ballyshannon, County Donegal, are appealing for information and have appeared to the driver to come forward.
It is understood the child is from the Kildress area of County Tyrone.
Kildress Wolfe Tones has cancelled an Intermediate Championship fixture today (Sunday).
The club, near Cookstown, had been due to play Moy Tir na nOg GAC but called the game off after the tragedy.
An Under 16 ladies championship semi-final has also been cancelled this morning.
A Gardai spokesperson said: “Traffic diversions are in place and the scene has been preserved for examination by scenes of crime officers and Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
“The local coroner and office of the State Pathologist have has been notified and arrangements will be made for a post-mortem examination. The deceased has been removed to the mortuary at Sligo Hospital.”
