A KEADY farmer has been fined £2,000 after pleading guilty to a number of charges.

Gordon Kennedy, of Corkley Road, admitted one charge under the Cattle Identification (Enforcement) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1998, and three charges under the Cattle Identification (Notification of Births, Deaths and Movements) Regulations (NI) 1999.

He was convicted of one charge, of being the keeper of bovine animals, in contravention of Article 7.1 of Council Regulation (EC) No 1760/2000 and Article 6.3 of the Commission Regulation (EC) No 2629/97, of failing to notify the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the movement of 33 cattle off his holding, or the death of any such animals in accordance with the provisions of Regulation 7 and 8 of the Cattle Identification (Notification of Births, Deaths & Movements) Regulations (NI) 1999, contrary to Regulation 5 (1) of the said Regulations.

He was also convicted of one charge of failing to keep a herd register of cattle as required by Regulation 3(4) of the Cattle Identification (Enforcement) Regulations (NI) 1998 in accordance with the form set out in the Schedule to the said Regulations contrary to Regulation 3(1) of the said Regulations.

The Keady farmer was further convicted of two charges, of contravening Article 7.1 of Council Regulation (EC) No 1760/2000 and Article 6.3 of the Commission Regulation (EC) No 2629/97, in that he failed to notify DARD of the movement of cattle onto his holding in accordance with the provisions of Regulation 7 of the Cattle Identification (Notifications of Births, Deaths and Movements) Regulations (NI) 1999, contrary to Regulation 5(1) of the said Regulations.

The breaches of the regulations were discovered at a Cattle Identification Inspection carried out by DARD Inspectors.

The farmer – who appeared before Armagh Magistrates’ Court on Friday, September 21 – was also ordered to pay £46 in costs.
