Councillor new chair at Irish pre-school and sets sight on fundraising to build classroom

“The Naíscoil was established in Keady in October 2015 and since then the committee has worked hard to take it from strength to strength."

Brona Haughey

A local councillor has spoken of her delight after being selected to become the chair of an Irish language pre-school in Keady.

And Sinn Féin representative Bróna Haughey – describing it as an “honour” to take on the role at Naíscoil an Chéide – hopes to help with fundraising for the building of a new classroom.

The Cusher councillor said: “It’s a great honour for me to be selected as the chair of Naíscoil an Chéide and I would like to thank the members of the board for supporting me for this position.

“The Naíscoil was established in Keady in October 2015 and since then the committee has worked hard to take it from strength to strength.

“In particular, the efforts of Sharon, along with her staff Louise, Ann Marie and Annie have helped take us to a point where we have full enrolment each year with many pupils choosing to progress and complete their education through Irish medium.

“Going forward, I want to help the Naíscoil with launching a fundraising platform to help us achieve our goal of building our own classroom.

“The development of more spaces where children of all backgrounds can learn Irish together is a positive step in promoting inclusion in our community.”
