Speaking at the January 27 meeting of Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon (ABC) Borough Council, Cllr Thomas O’Hanlon asked for detailed upgrade plans to be prepared for Carnagh Forest Park, in the event of funding becoming available.

The SDLP representative for Armagh DEA stated: “In relation to Carnagh Forest Park, can I just welcome the investment that council has been involved in over recent years and in recent weeks.”

Expressing thanks for the the installation of interpretive signage throughout the park, he added: “I met with the the head of Climate Sustainability and Parks on site in recent weeks and welcome our engagement in relation to the future of the park.

“There are a number of maintenance issues there that are now starting to be undertaken and hopefully addressed, but in recent years, in this chamber, we’ve seen a number of funding opportunities come and go, with no bids being made in relation to investment at Carnagh, and the reason was that there had been no detailed proposals or plans for investment at the facility.

“Can I ask that a detailed paper is brought back through the relevant committee, detailing a plan for the site to include the provision of toilets, expansion of the trails and investment in the fishing facilities?

“I understand where we are in relation to Capital plan, but at least something detailed and designed that’s ready for any potential funding bids could be in place.”

Cllr O’Hanlon’s proposal enjoyed unanimous support in the council chamber.
