Keady store clear air on ‘false’ claims they favour Halal over Irish fillets

The business owners said they were 'saddened' to have to make a statement on the matter but felt it 'important'

A Keady store employing over 80 local people has cleared the air after becoming the target of false claims they were “only selling Halal chicken fillets”.

Taking to social media to respond to malicious claims published online, owners Damien and Frankie McGleenan of McGleenan’s Centra said categorically, all claims are “false” and that having to make a statement to that effect was saddening but “important”.

The assertions made about the business insinuated they were exclusively selling the Halal poultry and were no longer supplying Irish chicken fillets.

Said the pair: “At McGleenan’s Centra, we are committed to transparency, quality, and customer choice. We clearly label all products so customers can make informed decisions at all times.

“Like many retailers, we are currently managing a well known, island wide shortage of chicken fillets. To maintain supply, we offer both Irish and Dutch products, all fully traceable and sourced through trusted local suppliers within 40 miles of our store.”

Referencing part of the falsified claims which stated, ‘Please be aware what you’re buying and supporting’, the business owners added: “We remain fully committed to supporting local businesses, families, and jobs, and our customers can be confident they are buying high quality products every time they shop with us.

“Finally, over the past 20 years our business has continued to grow year on year and win not only local but also national awards.

“Our valued staff come from across the local area and take great pride in serving their community every day.

“We owe our success to the support of our loyal staff and customers and offer a heartfelt thanks and we pledge to continue to provide you with the excellent service you have been used to.”
