A Co Armagh community is mourning the loss of a young woman who sadly lost her battle against a rare form of cancer earlier on Friday.
Roisin Molloy was diagnosed with a rare, incurable form of spinal cancer – Anaplastic Ependymoma – back in November 2021.
Roisin fought hard for the best part of three years and her passing has left a dark cloud hanging over Keady and the wider area.
Earlier this year, a GoFundMe page had been set up to raise funds to send Roisin to Mexico for specialist treatment in one final bid to save her.
The community responded in kind and helped raise over £50,000.
Speaking at the time, the family said: “Anyone that knows Roisin, will know this is out of her comfort zone; fiercely independent, head strong and work focused, we as her family want to get the best possible outcome for her and hopefully get some of these attributes back. Thank you all in advance for your support, kind wishes and prayers.”
Keady Michael Dwyers GAA club led the tributes.
“The committee, members, players and everyone connected with Keady Michael Dwyers are in mourning today at the devastating news of the passing of Roisin Molloy,” they said.
“Anyone who knows anything about the GAA in Keady will understand how integral the Molloy family are to the GAA community.
“And so we pass on to them our sincerest condolences at this incredibly difficult time.
“We must keep the whole Molloy family circle and friends in our thoughts and prayers as they mourn the passing of Roisin, who at only 38 years old has been taken much too soon.
“She will be sorely missed by her family, friends and wider community.
“Roisin’s remains are expected to be home around 5.30pm and we will be gathering at the entrance to Granemore Park in club colours. May Roisin Rest in Peace. Ar dheis De go raibh a hanam.”
A funeral notice said Roisin passed away peacefully at home in the presence of her devoted family.
Cherished daughter of Kate (Ian) and Michael (Ann) and dearly beloved sister to Katrina, Nora, Paula, Sarah, Brian, Barry, Aimee, Jack and Eve.
Her remains will repose at her mother’s home 58 Granemore Park, Keady from this evening (Friday) arriving approx 6pm until removal on Monday to arrive at St Patrick’s Church Keady for 11am funeral mass. Burial afterwards in the church cemetery.
Deeply regretted by her loving mother, father and their partners, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and the entire family circle and many friends.
On her gentle soul sweet Jesus have mercy.
