A Keady man who grabbed his partner by the throat and slapped her around the head has been ordered to complete a two year probation order.
The 34-year-old’s solicitor told court: “He is working constructively to ensure in the future that there is no repetition of this type of behaviour.”
Conor Power, of Lir Gardens, appeared for sentencing on one count of common assault at Armagh Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Newry, via videolink from his solicitor’s office.
Prosecution outlined that on October 10, at 1.45am, police received a report of an ongoing domestic incident at an address in Keady.
Upon arrival, police spoke with the injured party who claimed to have been assaulted by her partner, the defendant.
She described being grabbed by the throat and slapped around the head several times.
Police observed no visible injuries and the initial account was captured on body worn camera.
Power was arrested and conveyed to Banbridge Custody Suite,
Defence solicitor Oisin Toner stated his client appeared before the court with an “impeccable record” and a “good work history”.
He outlined that Power still lived with the injured party, who was now pregnant, and their 14-month-old child.
Mr Toner stated: “For someone who’s never been in any trouble before this has been a very salutary lesson. I would say that he is working very hard to recover his relationship with his partner and is augmenting that with another child.
“He is working constructively to ensure in the future that there is no repetition of this type of behaviour.”
District Judge Bernie Kelly stated: “Domestic violence is a serious offence Mr Power, therefore you have to be treated as such by this court. You have no previous record, you have pleaded guilty, you also to your credit admitted the offence in your police interview.”
The defendant was sentenced to a probation order for a period of two years.
