Police are currently investigating an arson attack on a business in Keady on Friday evening.
Officers attended the scene to the rear of the Caledonian Bar and Restaurant – in an alleyway in the Fairgreen Avenue area – at around 5:20pm.
The NI Fire Service also attended.
The incident, which caused damage was caused to a pipe, is being treated as arson at this time.
Sinn Féin Councillor Darren McNally condemned the action of the person/s involved.
“Some youth dug up an oil pipe, which runs from the oil tank into the premises, and a fire was then set alight right beside it,” he explained.
“The fire was taking hold, but thank God it was spotted in time, thank you to the local fire service for their quick response.
“It doesn’t bear thinking about if this fire hadn’t have been caught in time, with residents living nearby to the oil tank; we could have being looking at a fatality.
He added: “Not to mention the business premises which is set to open next week, it too would have been lost.
“The police are investigating and my thoughts are with Mary and the staff of the Caledonian Keady at this time.”
