St Patrick’s High School, Keady celebrates Maths Week at Queen’s University

Students from St Patrick’s High School, Keady marked this year’s Maths Week Ireland by taking part in a special workshop presented by US based Julia Robinson Maths Festival director Dr Mark Saul.

As part of Maths Week (12-20 October) Dr Saul presented a workshop at Queen’s University Belfast focusing on how early mathematical learning grows into deep understanding. Working alongside Dr Mark Saul was a team of maths mentors from Queen’s University maths department.

Over 350,000 people across the island of Ireland got involved in Maths Week at schools and colleges including Queen’s University Belfast, Stranmillis University College, Ulster University at Magee, Jordanstown and Coleraine, W5 and Armagh Planetarium.

Maths entertainers also presented an inter-generational at Nazareth Care Village in Belfast and school workshops in libraries in Belfast and Newry including a ‘maths with no borders event at Newry City Library.

Maths Week is the biggest celebration of mathematics of its kind and aims to promote the benefits of maths to pupils and the wider community. The all-island event, supported locally by the Department for the Economy, promotes a positive image of mathematics and its applications in everyday life.
