This is sickening in the extreme.
And with recycling centres now operational – and a free bulky goods lifting service – there is no excuse at all.
This was the scene up at Carrigatuke Viewpoint.
An area of natural beauty where you can see for miles and miles.
But visitors to the area have been met by this.
Mattresses – all sizes and colours – dumped.
One local who sent us these pictures counted 12 of them.
It is clear it would most likely have taken several journeys to transport these and then leave them here.
Anyone with information on this – or any other incident of fly-tipping – should report it to the local council.
As usual it will be the ratepayers who have to pay to clean up after them but by reporting it we can live in hope that they may be caught.
Earlier this week, Sinn Fein MLA Cathal Boylan highlighted the issue.
“Many people over the last number of months have contacted local councillors expressing anger about the indiscriminate dumping of waste and the littering of our countryside, we all know that this has been an ongoing issue over the years in this vicinity and especially this past few months,” he said.
“It ranges from tyres, household appliances, plastics, etc. It’s awful to look at and in most cases environmentally damaging, so I would appeal to people to stop dumping, to take your litter home and to use our recycling facilities as per council guidelines, we must all continue to highlight the blight that acts like this cause.
“I have reported this incident to council and hope that it can be dealt with as soon as practicable.”
