Two men charged after viable pipe bomb discovered following police pursuit ending in Keady

Detectives investigating a major security alert in the Keady area on Wednesday morning (October 22) have charged two men to court.

The incident began when a vehicle made off from police in the Lurgan area. Following an authorised pursuit, officers deployed a stinger device to bring the vehicle to a halt in Keady.

Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered a viable pipe bomb device in the rear, prompting a full security operation in the area.

Two men, aged 22 and 37, have now been charged with a number of offences including possessing explosives in suspicious circumstances, driving while disqualified, using a motor vehicle without insurance, dangerous driving, and failing to stop for police.

The 37-year-old man faces an additional charge of driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

Both men are due to appear before Newry Magistrates’ Court on Friday, October 24.

As is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
