KEADY will undergo a deep spring clean this week as a new council clean up squad begins work to tidy the town.
The workers will spend an estimated two weeks cleaning the town before a new schedule which will see each area mechanically swept with additional litter picks and cleaning taking place on a fortnightly / monthly basis, is introduced.
Welcoming the news, SDLP Councillor Thomas O’Hanlon explained: “Keady is the largest town in the Council area outside of Armagh City and has seen a large growth in housing over the last 15-20 years and yet the council’s maintenance services haven’t expanded to reflect the sprawling footprint of the town.
“Last week I met with senior council officers and we went through every housing area in the town and identified were works are required. This included everything from street cleaning, graffiti removal, dog fouling, grass cutting, hedge cutting, new signage and flowerbeds.
“It covered all housing areas, entry’s and streets and I hope local people will very quickly notice the difference.
“This new squad is in addition to the work the council’s daily street cleaning and will complement the work Kevin McKee is already doing and doing very well.
“It is anticipated that this clean up squad will spend over two weeks in the town giving everywhere a good cleanup, then new cleaning arrangements will be put in place in the coming weeks.
“This work is vital and will see all the roads on the outskirts of the town also cleaned up. However what is imperative is the follow up work in the weeks and months ahead to ensure the areas a maintained to a high standard.”
