The Ulster Unionist Assembly member for Newry & Armagh, Danny Kennedy MLA has congratulated the organisers of two special Parades he attended last night, Monday, August 4, which commemorated the beginning of the Great War in August 1914.
Mr Kennedy paraded in Bessbrook village as a member of Tullyvallen Silver Band, who led a parade of Ex Servicemen to a short Service of Commemoration at the War Memorial conducted by local Clergy.
Later on Monday evening, Mr Kennedy attended the Candlelight Vigil and Parade organised by Newry RBL which was followed by a short Service of Commemoration at Newry Cenotaph, Bank Parade in the City.
Mr Kennedy said: “Both of these events were very poignant and were simple but impressive. On behalf of the entire wider community I would like to thank the organisers of these important events for giving us the opportunity to remember all those who served in the Great War from all sides of the community”.
