Ulster Unionist MLA Danny Kennedy has urged BBC Northern Ireland to “improve its coverage of rural Twelfth venues” and has suggested the Corporation broadcast the weekend weather forecast on Friday, July 11, from Markethill.
Mr Kennedy said: “I have written to BBC NI Controller Peter Johnston asking that, as part of the Twelfth of July coverage they should take an outside broadcast of the Weather forecast on 11/07/14 from Markethill – the Co Armagh venue, which is a host venue and the largest demonstration in Northern Ireland on the Twelfth.
“I am aware the BBC has done this to highlight other sporting/cultural events, and the Corporation can rest Angie and her colleagues would be made very welcome in Markethill.
“For some time now I have been lobbying the BBC to improve its coverage of the Twelfth, particularly in rural areas and I have led a delegation from the Orange Order to discuss these matters.
“I am very much looking forward to a family friendly festival at the Markethill Twelfth and I would urge the BBC to afford this gathering the same courtesy and positive coverage as it has done to other cultural and sporting events in the Province.”
