Cattle prices from Markethill Mart – 12/09/2012

AN increased entry of 450 cattle at Markethill on Tuesday, September 11 returned an excellent trade in all rings particularly dairy stock and cull cows.

Demand for dairy cows was exceptionally good selling to £1860 for a calved heifer from a Katesbridge farmer.  The same owner received £1600 for a calved heifer.  A Lurgan farmer sold 2 calved heifers at £1470 and £1400 each.  A Newtownhamlton farmer received £1150 for a calved cow.

Suckler outfits sold from £820 to £970 for a Simm heifer and bull calf.

CULL COWS

The 100 cull cows sold in a firmer trade with fleshed Friesian cows in particularly good demand from £110 to £130 per 100 kilos with a top of £134.60 for 650k at £875.  Beef-bred cows from £124 to £146.40 for 740k at £1085.

Second quality cows from £90 to £105 per 100 kilos and the poorest lots from £60 to £80 per 100 kilos.

Aged bulls from £122 to £134.30 for 860k at £1155.  Friesian bulls to £119.20 for 1040k at £1240.

The 160 store cattle returned a steady demand.  Good quality middleweight heifers sold from £155 to £179.50 for 390k at £700.  Forward heifers from £150 to £170 for 570k at £970.  Plainer heifers sold from £140 to £148 per 100 kilos.

Forward bullocks sold from £160 to £170 for 680k at £1155.  Friesians from £123 to £133 for 540k at £710.  Middleweight steers from £150 to £165 per 100 kilos with friesians from £120 to £151 for 490k at £740.

Heifer calves sold to £420 for an Angus followed by £395 for a Simm.  Main demand from £170 to £222.  Bull calves from £180 to £270 for a blue.

The 100 reared calves returned a very firm demand.  Bulls sold to £690 for a Char.  Several more from £550 to £660.  Heifer to £415 each.
