Markethill Recreation Centre hosted an Open Night recently to launch the re-opening of the facility to the general public from October 6 2014 until April 2 next year.
People in the area came along to view the Visions fitness suite, get fitness advice from the qualified fitness instructors and watch machine demonstrations. Many of those who attended purchased the special offer of £80 for 6 month Visions membership, only available on the night.
There a was raffle on the night, with the following prize winners, 1st Jamie McNiece, 6 month Visions membership, 2nd Donna Keogh, Round of Golf at Loughgall Country Park & Golf Course, 3rd Helen Boyce, 3 month Visions membership, 4th Elaine Ferley, £40 voucher for the Marketplace Theatre & Arts Centre and 5th John Kernaghan, Family Pass for the Navan Centre and Fort.
As with previous years, Armagh City and District Council will manage the facility which will be opened Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights from 5.00pm to 9.30pm. The Centre offers the public a fitness suite, a variety of activity classes and a main hall which may be booked for activities such as football, badminton and basketball.
Armagh City and District Council Leisure Services Officer, Paul Hanna said: “It was great to meet with people from the local community tonight and to hear their positive feedback of the Centre reopening for another six months.”
Markethill Recreation Centre is based within the Sports Annex of Markethill High School, it works in partnership with the Southern Education and Library Board and Armagh City and District Council. Since 2011, the Centre has been opening annually for a six month period in dual use with the School.
James Maxwell, Principal of Markethill High School, commented on the night, “It was a pleasure to see many members of the Community coming to the Open Night and viewing the facilities on offer. With new courses in the pipeline and extra fitness equipment to boost the already outstanding provision, we are confident we are providing the local community and beyond with an excellent, fit-for-purpose Recreation Centre. We are delighted with the increasingly strong relationship between the Council and the School which will undoubtedly cement the dual access scheme well into the future.”
