It’s the craze that’s sweeping the globe at the moment and it’s all about raising money, and plenty of it, for great causes.
And now Armagh Lord Mayor Cathy Rafferty is about to get in on the act when she takes on the Ice Bucket Challenge this weekend.
The Lord Mayor will ’embrace the brrrrr’ as she aims to raise as much money as possible for her two chosen charities for her year in office, the Southern Area Hospice and Armagh Acorns Autism Centre.
The challenge is due to take place this Saturday, September 6, at the Shambles Yard.
It is one added extra for this year’s Bramley Apple Festival, which has many highlights and a day filled full of entertainment for the whole family.
There will be kids’ activities, mouthwatering recipes, the launch of the brilliant Armagh Bramley cookbook and DVD (at 1pm), with hand-crafted Armagh Bramley apple juices and ciders to be enjoyed.
There will also be a competition for the ‘Best Armagh Bramley Apple Tart’, which is open only to non-professional cooks. Members of the public are invited to get baking and bring along their entries on the day for blind tasting by a panel of judges. All entries should be received by 4pm with judging at 4.30pm.
There will also be free education workshops throughout the day for the children, when parents can leave their child and spend some time sampling and buying from the incredible and eclectic range of artisan foods on offer.
There will be cookery demonstrations held throughout the day when chefs will showcase traditional and innovative recipes. Visitors can sample a delicious range of freshly prepared dishes made from the finest fresh local food and drink
For the first time ever, all three of Northern Ireland’s PGI products will be coming together for the day. The three products are Lough Neagh Eels, Comber Early Potatoes and, of course, Armagh Bramley Apples!
Viva Bar will also be present making cocktails and mocktails using local ciders and apple juices.
There will be something for all to enjoy, so why not come along, between 10am and 6pm, and celebrate all that is good about our delicious Armagh Bramley?
