Ann’s Care Home is hoping to build a 14-bed nursing facility at its existing Grouse Care Home at Loughgall, Armagh I can reveal.
The company has lodged a planning application for the site at Ballyhegan, which was formerly home to the Famous Grouse bar and restaurant.
The single-storey development includes en suite bedrooms, as well as a day room, dining room and kitchen, visitor room, laundry, assisted bathroom, treatment room, nurses station, office and staff facilities.
A spokesperson for Ann’s said that if the application was successful, it would result in a “significant investment and a substantial boost to the local economy through the creation of construction jobs and nursing and care assistant posts once the facility is operational”.
The spokesperson told Armagh I : “This facility will complement our existing home which we are very proud of, and hopefully can offer similar and much-needed services to new residents.
“We look forward to opening the new facility and working with all local stakeholders in the local community.”
Plans for the initial redevelopment of the Famous Grouse bar and restaurant were first revealed in 2019, five years after its closure.
They included overnight staff accommodation, 10 en suite bedrooms for residents, as well as a quiet/sensory room, visitors’ room and day room.
The plan was for residents to have access to their own vegetable plots and animal pens.
The care provider was founded in 1994 by Ann and Pat McQuade.
In June 2021, it announced the acquisition of 13 nursing homes from Four Seasons Health Care (FSHC).
At the time, Ann’s said the purchase secured more than 1,100 jobs across Northern Ireland and ensured the continuity of care for the homes’ 650 residents.
The care homes bought included Sandringham Care Home and Mahon Hall Care Home in Portadown, Dungannon Care Home, Ashgrove Care Home in Newry, Seapatrick Care Home in Banbridge and Laganvale Care Home in Moira.
The Loughgall application will come as a major boost to the care sector locally.
The plans will be advertised shortly with a decision expected in due course.
