A Loughgall man accused of supplying drugs, which “caused the death” of his partner, is set to face the Crown Court next month.
Patrick Martin Kelly, of Loughgall Mews, appeared before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday for the purposes of a preliminary enquiry into the incident which occurred on November 17, last year.
During the short hearing, the 45-year-old confirmed he understood the charges against him, which include: possessing a Class B controlled drug, namely ketamine; importing a Controlled Drug, namely ketamine and diazepam; possession of Class C controlled drug, namely diazepam; supplying a Class B controlled drug; and supplying a Class C controlled drug.
While the facts of the case were not outlined in court, defence barrister Conor Coulter made an application for certification counsel due to a “significant aggravating feature” in the case being that the “supply of the drugs caused the death of the defendant’s partner”.
District Judge Francis Rafferty refused the application and remanded Kelly into custody until his crown court hearing on July 4.
A pre-arraignment hearing was set for June 15.
