No better winner!
Lurgan’s Jay Beatty got a rapturous response when he collected the top award at this year’sSunday Life Spirit of Northern Ireland Awards, in association with Specsavers.
At a star-studded gala ceremony at the Culloden Hotel, the 11-year-old collected a £1,000 prize which had been donated by Peninsula Care Services.
X Factor judge Louis Walsh, together with Specsavers’ Tony McGinn and Sunday Life’s editor presented Jay, who has Downs Syndrome, with the Spirit of Northern Ireland Award, which was screened tonight on UTV.
Young Jay is a huge Celtic FC fan and he won the Scottish Premier Goal of the Month Award in February after scoring a penalty during a half time match.
Jay was clearly delighted with his award and jumped on to the stage.
Martin Breen said Jay had “captured the hearts and minds” of everyone who had met him.
Jay had been delighted when Northern Ireland stars Niall McGinn and Paddy McCourt were joined by team manager Michael O’Neill to award him with his U105 Young Person finalist trophy.
Yet another award for a remarkable young man!
