First virtual reality gaming experience in Northern Ireland opens in Co Armagh

Gaming experience has been attracting some attention in opening month

The first virtual reality gaming centre in Northern Ireland has opened in county Armagh.

Alt Esc is the brainchild of Chris Canavan and he has introduced the first of its kind to a unit in the Centrepoint Complex on the Portadown Road in Lurgan.

It has been six months in the making and despite ongoing work, Chris told Armagh I the project has seen a positive response in the few three weeks of trading.

Numbers have doubled each week and returning customers have allayed some Chris’s fears that “once people have tried it, they have tried it”.

There are currently four pods in operation with plans to have ten fully functional in the coming weeks.

Virtual reality is a computer technology that uses headsets, sometimes in combination with physical spaces, which allow customers to interact with the surroundings.

And in this case, it is linked to a host of games and learning modules; something Chris is keen to develop further for corporate parties and schools.

In the meantime, you can check it out on Facebook here.

The Gaming Centre is open every Thursday and Friday from 6-11pm, Saturday 11am until 11pm and Sunday 11-10pm.
