Club pays tribute to ‘well loved’ Michael McConville

County Armagh GAA club Clann Eireann have paid tribute to their “extremely popular” and “well loved member” Michael McConville.

The 31-year-old father-of-two was found dead in the North Circular Road area of Lurgan on New Year’s Day.

His sudden death is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

In a statement released this evening, a club spokesperson said: “Clann Eireann GACĀ  are deeply saddened at the loss of our player, mentor and fellow Gael, Michael McConville.

“Michael was an extremely popular, well loved member of our club and his loss is devastating to everyone who knew him.

“He was involved in many facets of our club from the youth and social club to playing underage and senior football and in more recent times taking up a coaching role, a role which he particularly enjoyed.

“Michael will be forever remembered for his huge smile and his unquestionable passion for his club, the club he loved and that loved him.

“Just this past season he helped coach the U-16 boys team to Armagh and Ulster glory as well as being part of the senior squad which were crowned league and championship winners.

“The club’s committee and members wish to extend our deepest sympathies to the McConville and McDonald families on the death of Michael.”

May he rest in peace.
