A Co Armagh company has been charged with a number of health and safety issues following the death of employee Jonathan Peden in 2016.
Alan Little Ltd was charged with two offences of failing to ensure the health and safety of both employees and non-employees at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Mr Peden, died following a workplace accident at Little Electrical in Lurgan.
The company, which is headquartered in the town, is charged with “failing to ensure, so far as was reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare at work of all your employees” and that “being an employer, failed to conduct your undertaking in such a way as to ensure, so far as was reasonably practicable, that persons not in your employment who may be affected thereby were not thereby exposed to risks to their health or safety”.
The charges are understood to relate to an investigation following the death of Mr Peden, who tragically passed away a month after getting married to his partner Roisin.
In a statement which was released at the time of the tragedy, the company had described Mr Peden as a “very valued and longstanding member of our team”.
The case had been scheduled for a preliminary enquiry yesterday, but following applications from the company’s defence solicitors, it was adjourned until next month.
A solicitor for Alan Little Ltd told District Judge Bernie Kelly he would be seeking a preliminary investigation.
