Co Armagh man to face trail over fiancée’s murder

David Lyness is accused of murdering his fiancée earlier this year

A county Armagh man has denied murdering his fiancée has appeared at Belfast Crown Court today (Friday).

David Lyness, 51, of Toberhewny Hall, Lurgan pleaded not guilty to the murder of Anita Downey, also 51, in their family home on January 20 this year.

An earlier court sitting heard how the defendant’s son had called 999 to report the incident.

And when officers arrived they found the victim in a pool of blood on the floor with a wound to her neck.

The trial is due to start at Belfast Crown Court on December 4 and is expected to last for up to two weeks.

Lyness was remanded back into custody to Maghaberry prison to await his trial.
