A derelict building which was “being used by youths” in Lurgan was deliberately set on fire on Thursday evening.
Seven fire crews were called to the old nurses’ accommodation on Union Street shortly before 8pm.
Two crews attended from Lurgan, two from Portadown, two from Lisburn and one from Knock attended the scene.
A NI Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Firefighters were called to a fire at a derelict building last night at 7.50pm. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used three jets to extinguish the fire. The incident was dealt with by 10pm and the cause of the fire is being treated as deliberate ignition.”
DUP representative in the area, Peter Haire, said: “Unfortunately there has been a fire at the old nurses’ accommodation on Union St, Lurgan. Just last week Carla Lockhart MP highlighted this building was being used by youths and the door had been burst down.
“The matter of establishing the identity of the current owners is ongoing. Once this is done we will work to ensure the building is secured and does not become a further hazard.
