A Lurgan man who drove whilst over the limit after being disqualified for the same offence will have to wait until next month to see how long he will be off the roads.
The district judge told the 49-year-old she was not surprised this was not his first offence as she ordered forfeiture of his vehicle.
Kieron Gaynor, of Wellington Street, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol, using a vehicle without insurance and no licence at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
It was heard that on June 1, at 1.45pm, police spotted the defendant driving a Citroen Berlingo van on North Street, Lurgan.
Upon speaking to Gaynor, officers noted a strong smell of intoxicating liquor.
A preliminary breath test was taken resulting in a fail.
Checks of police systems showed that the defendant did not hold a licence and the vehicle was not insured.
At Banbridge Custody Suite, a reading of 102mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath was obtained.
District Judge Bernie Kelly asked Gaynor, who represented himself, why he did not have a licence.
He replied: “I lost it in 2016 for drink driving.”
District Judge Kelly stated: “It does not come as a surprise that this is not your first time doing this. I am forfeiting your vehicle because you will not be on the road for some time.
“For how long you will be disqualified for I will deal with that on August 16.”
The case was put back for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.
Gaynor was released to appear before the Magistrates’ Court on August 16 for sentencing.
