A Co Armagh man appeared before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court charged with the brutal murder of an 11-week-old puppy on Saturday.
Kyle Keegan, 23, of Gilpins Manor, Lurgan was brought to court in a police van and appeared in the dock, flanked by officers.
The alleged incident was said to have happened on February 3, with claims that Keegan brutally bludgeoned the puppy to death with a hammer before putting it in a microwave.
Defence solicitor Gabriel Ingram told the court that there would be no bail applied for at this stage but that they would be looking for an address outside the Lurgan area.
District Judge Bernie Kelly stated that perhaps “somewhere about the Azores would be appropriate” adding that “social media extends the whole way from the edge of West America to the East coast of Japan”.
A police officer said she was aware of the facts and circumstances of the case and believed she could connect the accused to the charge.
Judge Kelly placed Keegan on four weeks remand, to appear back by way of videolink on Friday, March 2.
As Keegan was being led away there were shouts of “scumbag” and ‘b*****d’ from members of the public.
