Lurgan Park was transformed into a spectacular musical scene on Saturday with the Craigavon & District Pipe Band and Drum Major Championships attracting thousands of people to the dazzling one day event.
Organised by the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (Co. Down Section) in partnership with Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, the sun shone while world class competitors put on a fantastic musical display for visitors and guests.
Local winners included Battlehill Pipe Band who won 1st prize in Grade 3B and St Mary’s Derrytrasna who were won 1st in Grade 4B. Bleary & District Pipe Band were placed 2nd in Grade 1 and Marlacoo & District were placed 2nd in Grade 3A.
In the Drum Majors Jason Price from Portadown came 1st in the Adult Grade with Andrea McKeown, Tandragee taking 5th prize. Jamie Cupples, Richhill came 1st in the Junior Grade with Rachel Lowry, Armagh taking 5th prize. Benjamin Walker, Banbridge was placed 5th in the Novice Grade.
While listening to the terrific melodies played throughout the picturesque park, visitors also sampled a wide range of delicious food and treats at the cuisine court while children enjoyed face painting, balloon modelling and a fairground zone.
There was also plenty of complimentary entertainment on offer at the Cultural Music Stage in the Park featuring the brilliant folk heroes Blackthorn, Camhanach. AcoustiKatz, Magwere and special performances from the Johnston School of Highland Dance.
