Plans for a £23million 257-home Co. Armagh housing development has this week been given the green light.
Planners on the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council recommended the Lurgan project, which was given the seal of approval by councillors on Wednesday night.
The multi-million pound scheme, submitted by Stephen and David Hall, includes a range of detached, semi-detached and apartment premises, built on lands to the south of 11a Belfast and immediately adjacent to and to the east of Pines Grove, Pines Close, Pines Court and Thornhill Park, with access provided though Lilburn Hall.
Permission for 296 homes on the same site had also been granted in 2009, however, there are high hopes this latest proposal will move forward in the coming months.
It hasn’t been all plain sailing with a number of dissenting opinions.
On Wednesday night, one of 10 objectors who had joined the meeting remotely said they hoped the applicants would consider wildlife in the area, accepting that the scheme would be approved regardless of their reservations.
While DUP Alderman Sydney Anderson questioned the increased traffic on an already busy Belfast Road.
Sinn Fein Councillor Garath Keating concurred with this concern, stating the Roads Service would need to make sure the infrastructure is “kept up to date”.
The proposal to accept the plan was tabled by Councillor Keating and seconded by party colleague Paul Duffy, with the application then given the thumbs up by the committee.
