Kilwilkie area becomes ‘personal racetrack’ of anti-social drivers, ‘torturing’ Lurgan residents

A group said that some of the vehicles involved have been identified

The residents of the Kilwilkie area of Lurgan say some anti-social drivers are using the roads as their “personal racetrack”, “torturing” of those who live there.

One individual, plagued by the nuisance behaviour, said a “large group” of drivers took to the roads late on Monday evening and continued to rally until early on Tuesday morning (August 18).

She described having a “sleepless night” with scramblers and cars racing through the estate.

Tagging Cllr Keith Haughian in a social media post about the incident, she said “Absolutely ridiculous. I’m sure I’m not the only household who has been up especially when we are all trying to get our children into a routine for the school year starting next week. Angry doesn’t come close. I feel sorry for the residents that had to get up for their work after a sleepless night.”

A group known as the Irish Republican Socialist Party for the Portadown and Lurgan area added to the resident’s claims, commenting: “Last night, residents of Kilwilkie were tortured by a large group of antisocial drivers, which continued until early this morning.

“It is completely unacceptable to have cars and scramblers use the estate as their personal racetrack. Not only did the noise disturb residents, but we are aware that some drivers narrowly missed parked cars.”

They stated that some vehicles had been identified and that the cars involved “don’t appear to be from the area”. They urged all anti-social behaviour to cease before “further action is taken”.

The group also encouraged concerned Kilwilkie residents to contact them for support should they wish.

Armagh I contacted police for more information, however, they have not received any reports.
