Man accused of bludgeoning puppy to death with hammer granted bail

Kyle Keegan

A Co Armagh man accused of violently killing a defenceless puppy with a hammer has been granted bail.

Kyle Keegan, 23, of Gilpins Manor, Lurgan, was released from custody for the first time since his arrest in February.

He is alleged to have bludgeoned 11-week-old puppy ‘Sparky’ to death on February 3.

A postmortem on the pup’s remains confirmed Sparky had sustained a number of fractures as well as severe brain trauma.

The pup’s remains were found in a bin in the Ailsbury Park area of Lurgan following a house party at a nearby property.

In previous bail applications, concerns were raised about a suitable address, and a potential risk to Keegan’s own safety.

However, at the High Court in Belfast today (Wednesday) bail was granted, which will be actioned when the police-approved address has been secured.

Bail conditions included a ban on alcohol and drugs, as well as a 10pm to 6am curfew, reporting to police twice a week and attending with his GP within seven days of being released.

Keegan was also told he was to have no contact with animals, and there should be no contact with anybody else in relation to the ongoing case.
