Lurgan expected to come to a standstill on Sunday as the funeral takes place of Odhrán Kelly.
The body of the popular 23-year-old was found beside a burning car in the town last weekend.
A week later, and Odhrán’s grieving family and friends are preparing to say goodbye.
A vigil took place during the week, when hundreds turned out to show their solidarity with the family and as a sign of their abhorrence at the young life tragically taken.
Odhrán, beloved son of Jacqueline and the late Paul, will be laid to rest on Sunday.
He will be reposing at his home at 61 Princess Street from tomorrow (Saturday).
The funeral will take place on Sunday, leaving the home at 12.45pm for 1.30pm Requiem Mass, after which burial will follow in St Colman’s Cemetery.
Odhrán is described in a death notice as the “much-loved brother of Paul and the late Sinead, a cherished grandson of Bernie and Colin Kelly and the late Lila and John Murray, loving nephew of Peter and his partner Vanessa, Frank and his wife Maria, Damian, Gary and his partner Gerard, and the late Brian, Mark and Colleen”.
Funeral from his home on Sunday at 12.45pm to St. Peter’s Church, Lurgan, where Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 1.30pm.
“Always loved and remembered by his family, all his cousins and his extended family circle,” the death notice concludes.
Funeral arrangements were made known on Friday, the day on which a man appeared in court charged with his murder.
Gary Damien Scullion, of Edward Street in Lurgan, appeared before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court.
Detectives from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team, investigating the murder of the healthcare worker, officially charged 31-year-old Scullion with murder late on Thursday night.
In court this morning, a police Detective Sergeant said he could connect the accused to the charge before the court.
The charge was then read and the defendant was asked if he understood – he replied: “yeah”.
As there was to be no application for bail, the judge remanded Scullion into custody and adjourned the case for four weeks to be heard again on January 5.
Yesterday, Stephanie McClelland, 36, of Shan Slieve and 43-year-old Andrea Catherine Stevenson, of Edward Street – both Lurgan – appeared before Lisburn Magistrates’ Court.
They are charged with assisting an offender with “the disposal of the body of Odhrán Kelly”.
Bail was not requested for either defendant and as a result both were remanded in custody.
The court heard they will apply for bail later this month. They are due back in Craigavon courthouse on December 15.
