Lurgan man (20) accused of three attempted murders to face Crown Court

Craigavon Court

A Lurgan man accused of the attempted murders of three people and possession of a knife with intent to commit murder has had his case referred to the Crown Court.

Ben John Gibson, of Glenfield Road, appeared before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday for the purposes of a preliminary enquiry (PE) – the legal process during which a case is referred to the higher court.

The 20-year-old is charged with three counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a weapon, namely a knife, with intent to commit murder.

The incident in question is alleged to have occurred on April 11 last year.

The defendant, who appeared before the court via videolink, made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.

The prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.

The defence made no contrary submissions.

District Judge Bernie Kelly, satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer, marked the holding charges withdrawn and remanded the defendant into custody to appear before Craigavon Crown Court on April 25 for arraignment.
