A Lurgan man accused of biting his ex-partner on the hand and injuring her five-week-old baby has been granted bail.
The 39-year-old’s barrister told court the defendant denied the offences and had no previous domestic abuse entries on his record.
Michael McCreanor, of Albert Street, appeared for the purposes of a bail application at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, via videolink from Maghaberry.
The defendant is charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, threats to kill, common assault and burglary with intent to steal.
Prosecution outlined that on March 24, police received a report of a domestic assault at an address on Albert Street, Lurgan.
Officers spoke to the alleged injured party, who claimed to have been assaulted by her ex-partner – the defendant.
She stated that McCreanor had been at the property looking after their two children, who were asleep. When she arrived she said her ex-partner was in the kitchen in an intoxicated state.
The alleged injured party observed a television at the property which she suspected was stolen and, after questioning McCreanor, she claims he then became aggressive.
The defendant is then alleged to have punched the female, before trying to pull her to the ground by her hair.
The alleged injured party stated she placed her left hand up to stop McCreanor but he then proceeded to bite her on the fingers.
Court heard that the alleged injured party had been holding her five-week-old child at the time of the attack.
Defence barrister Liam McStay stated that his client lives alone and could be tagged to that address.
He added that McCreanor denied the offences and had no previous domestic abuse entries on his record.
District Judge Bernie Kelly granted the defendant his own bail of £500 and adjourned the case until May 6.
Conditions of bail include that he observe a 9pm to 6am curfew, have no contact with the alleged injured party, and he is not to consume alcohol or entered licensed premises.
