A Lurgan man who was disorderly and shouted at police after a family dispute has been sentenced to three months in prison.
Lee Knox, of Manor Drive, appeared before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court via videolink fr0m Maghaberry.
The 24-year-old was charged with disorderly behaviour.
A further charge of possessing an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence was withdrawn.
The court heard that on November 14 last year, police received a report to attend the scene at an address in Lurgan. When officers arrived at the address, the defendant was in the garden and became “verbally abusive to police”.
He was shouting and was warned by police about his behaviour. He continued to shout at police and was arrested for disorderly behaviour.
The defence counsel, Aaron Thompson BL, told the court that the incident related to a “long running dispute” with the defendant’s girlfriend’s family, adding that Knox hadn’t “gone looking for trouble”.
Mr Thompson further explained that the defendant had been in custody on these matters for six weeks.
District Judge Bernie Kelly said: “I’m not going to adjourn this for a pre-sentence report. That would only add time onto the length of time that you’re already serving on remand.”
Taking into account the defendant’s plea of guilty, and the period of time he had already served, District Judge Kelly imposed a sentence of three months in custody.
