Police are treating a report that devices had been left at a number of police stations, including Lurgan, as a hoax.

An email was sent to Armagh I – alongside a number of Belfast media companies – with the subject line ‘urgent warning’.

The email claimed that explosive devices had been left at police stations and army barracks across Northern Ireland.

One of the sites named in the email was Lurgan Police Station.

The PSNI was notified of the email and its contents.

Yesterday evening, a PSNI spokesperson said: “Police received a report relating to suspicious devices being left at a number of locations in Northern Ireland today, Thursday, August 8.

“A public safety operation was implemented, and following extensive searches, nothing untoward was found. The report was deemed to be a hoax.

“However, police would continue to urge the public to be vigilant, and to contact police immediately should they have any concerns about anything suspicious in their area.”
