As one door closes for Lurgan Post Office another one opens… just across the road!

A former Lurgan Post Office and convenience store is due to close this month at its existing site… but, thankfully, is relocating just a few doors up with the new site due to open the following day.

The former premises is situated at 2 Market Street, one of Lurgan’s busiest and most high-footfall thoroughfares.

For many years, those in Lurgan may remember the premises as home to a Christmas shop before it very temporarily housed a Mace Express.

It then became McBee’s Post Office and convenience store up until recent years when it came under the Western Union brand.

Now under the agency of Locale Home Sales & Lettings, the property is once again seeking a new tenant as it prepares to close at the current site at 12:00 noon on Tuesday January 20, 2026.

Of the some 1300 sqft space, the agent said: “If space is what your business requires, these could just be the premises for you.”

Situated in a “central and very convenient location” at the top of Lurgan town facing Shankill Parish Church, the agent believes the premises is “perfect for many businesses” subject to the necessary approvals.

Thankfully with the closure of their former site, the Post Office services have not disappeared from the high street entirely.

Following public consultation and review, it will now be relocated to 15 Market Street, a move that has been welcomed by John O’Dowd, MLA.

Mr O’Dowd said the decision provides certainty for customers and helps secure the long-term future of Post Office services in the town.

“I welcome this confirmation from the Post Office Limited and the commitment that the new branch will continue to operate as a main-style Post Office. Importantly, the consultation process has been listened to, and feedback from local residents and representatives has helped inform the final decision.”

He added: “The assurance that the new location and layout will continue to meet customer needs and deliver a high standard of service is particularly important, especially for those who rely on the Post Office for everyday banking, postal and government services. Securing the long-term viability of these services in Lurgan is vital for the local community.”

The new branch at 15 Market Street opens at 1:00pm on Wednesday January 21, 2026, with advance notice given if plans change.
